-

NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old woman and her relative were murdered in Paharganj area of Central Delhi on Thursday. Police claimed that the killer turned out to be her brother-inlaw who was nabbed from the Paharganj area. The probe further revealed that a family dispute is believed to be the reason for the killings. According to police, they received two PCR calls regarding the murder at a house in Paharganj.

The Station House Officer (SHO) reached the spot along with the staff and found the relative’s body aged 30 years in a pool of blood lying on the bed. “The PCR caller was a family member who informed that the woman was taken to the hospital. She later died during treatment,” said the police officer. The woman was sleeping near one of the deceased and her 25-year-old son on the terrace at the time of the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa claimed that during enquiry it was revealed that elder brother of of the caller stabbed his sister-in-law, nephew and the relative by hoe and vegetable knife before running away from the spot.

“A manhunt was launched and the accused was nabbed from the Paharganj area,” said the police officer. He further added that the accused did not maintain cordial relations with the woman. The family dispute resulted in regular fights between the accused and his sister-in-law.

“A few days ago he was slapped by the woman as he suspected that she was not taking care of her children,” added the officer. When asked why he killed his relative, the investigator claimed that he suspected that some other person was sleeping there and in a fit of rage he attacked them while they were sleeping and fled the spot.

The Delhi Police data about the motives behind the murder in 2017 revealed that 18.61 per cent of cases were because of sudden provocation whereas 46.54 per cent of murder was due to enmity or dispute.
