2 arrested for spraying acid on a woman in Ghaziabad
GHAZIABAD: Two persons have been arrested by police on Wednesday for allegedly throwing acid on a 31-yearold woman in Sanjay Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Monday evening. Police said that the attack was related to a love affair gone sour. According to Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police, Vaibhav Krishna, the accused, Rahul Garg, a native of Kavi Nagar area in Ghaziabad, hurled acid on the woman, a dietician by profession, with the help of his friend Umang Pratap.
The officer further informed the media that the woman was married and had a son but she developed an extra marital relationship with the accused.
“Upon interrogating the accused Rahul, he told the police that he met the victim on a social media website in October last year and the both kept on meeting each other on various occasions. After a few months of friendship, the accused suspected the woman to be married and upon asking her she accepted to have been married and had a son too. Both of them continued talking to each other and in June this year, the victim also organised a party for the accused on his birthday at a three-star hotel in Ghaziabad,” said Krishna.
Police said that the differences developed between them about a month ago when the accused saw the woman stepping out of the car with a man other than her husband. “In July this year, Rahul saw the woman stepping out of an SUV with some other man at a market in Ghaziabad. When he saw her two-three times more with the same man, he along with his friends went to the victim’s house and told her husband and in-laws about the woman being into a relationship with him as well as some other man,” added Krishna.
Further, the accused plotted the conspiracy to throw acid on the woman in order to take revenge and with the help of his friend, Umang threw acid on the woman’s face when she was returning after dropping her son to tuition on Monday evening.
“Around ten days ago, the accused planned to take revenge from the woman and asked his friend to arrange a motorcycle and also gave him some money. On Monday morning, both the accused took drank together and as he was keeping an eye on the movements of the victim, they both covered their face with scarf and helmet and hurled acid on woman on Monday evening and fled,” said Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna.
Police said that Umang was riding the bike at the time of incident and Rahul threw acid on the woman. While an FIR was registered against them on Tuesday, police arrested both of them on Wednesday afternoon from Hapur Chungi road in Ghaziabad, following a tip-off.
Police also recovered the motor-cycle used in the crime, the clothes which they tried to destroy and the container through which acid was poured, from their possession.
