Is this your idea of ‘justice for our daughters’: Rahul to PM

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Thursday that ‘the mysterious death and hurried burial without an autopsy, of the key witness in the #Unnao rape & murder case, involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, smells of a conspiracy (sic).’ In a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the bizarre turn of events, Gandhi asked, ‘Is this your idea of “justice for our daughters”, Mr 56 ?’

The DNA daily newspaper and website had earlier reported that Yunus Khan, a key CBI eyewitness, was buried hurriedly without getting his post-mortem done. The CBI had made Khan its main witness in the beating up of victim’s father by the BJP MLA’S brother Atul Singh Sengar and four others, which resulted in his death in police custody.

Khan’s body was found by his brother Jaan Mohammad when he visited him at around 6 am on August 18, according to the DNA website. He was buried on the same day without a post mortem examination. When the victim’s uncle and other villagers raised doubts over Khan’s death, his brother Jaan Mohammad submitted a letter to Makhi Police Station SHO Javed Ahmed on August 21 requesting the police to exhume the body and get a post mortem done to clear the mystery behind his death, added the DNA report.

In his letter, Jaan Mohammad clearly mentioned that he had found Yunus’s body lying alone in his house. “People were raising doubts over his death saying that he might have been conspired to be killed since he was a witness in the CBI case. So I wrote to the SHO Maakhi to exhume the body and get the autopsy done to clear doubts,” stated Jaan Mohammad in his letter.
