NEW DELHI: A childless man in Shahpur Jat area of south Delhi’s Hauz Khas, who took his neighbour’s three-year-old son to Jharkhand to be raised as his own, has been arrested, Delhi Police said on Saturday.

Police said that on August 19, Abedin Ansari, a native of Jharkhand’s Giridih district, had kidnapped the boy when he was playing in his locality.

After finding their child missing, the parents lodged a missing complaint with cops.

Several police teams were formed, who interrogated residents of Shahpur Jat village and scrutinised several people who had been friendly with the boy.

After finding out about Ansari, a police team was also sent to his native district.

“After getting tip about the suspect, four teams were constituted and traps were laid at New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar railway stations on August 24. After six hours, the child was safely recovered Ansari’s possession when they reached New Delhi railway station by Magadh Express,” said a senior police officer.

During interrogation, Ansari disclosed that on August 19, he and his wife were going to village by train, when they saw the boy. As he had a liking to the boy, Ansari decided to take him to Giridih.

However, on reaching his village, Ansari came to know that cops had come to Jharkhand looking for him, and he decided to take the child to Delhi and keep him there.

He soon boarded a train to Delhi, but was arrested on Saturday after being spotted by cops at New Delhi station.
