Speeding water tanker crushes girl to death

NEW DELHI: In an accident, the errant driving by a 46-yearold man led to the death of 15-year-old girl in West Delhi's Janakpuri area on Monday. Police claimed that they have arrested the accused who was driving a Delhi Jal Board water tanker.

According to police, the incident came to light at 6:50 am when a PCR call regarding accident at C-1, Red Light Pankha Road Janakpuri was received at Janakpuri police station. The case was entrusted to assistant sub-inspector Dharam Singh for enquiry, who along with constable Yashpal reached the spot, where it was revealed that a water tanker bearing Delhi number which was coming from Bindapur side in very high speed had hit two school girls.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (West) Vijay Kumar stated that the injured were shifted to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital, where one injured girl named Nagma aged 15 years was declared brought dead by doctors whereas the other injured girl identified as Samreen aged 13 years is undergoing treatment. “Eyewitness­es stated that the vehicle was driven very rashly and in very high speed,” added the DCP.

Police claimed that the victim was going to school when the incident took place. The deceased lived with her family in West Delhi area and was studying in class 9. The driver was not able to control the vehicle and crushed the minor kids under the wheel.

Further during the course of investigat­ion, the accused driver identified as Dharmender, a resident of Galibpur was caught and arrested in the case. He was charged under sections 304a (Causing death by negligence) and 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of Indian Penal Code.

The data till August 2018 claimed that the highest number of the fatal accident was reported from Outer range (North West and Outer districts) which was 134 whereas 113 accidents were reported in the night from Western Range.
