- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: Making a killing in the name of the poor. The phrase was once again exhibited in Gurugram after it was revealed that plots meant for economically weaker section (EWS) category is being used by other people and builders who have used the plots for creating their houses or builder floors. Taking cognizance of this fraudulent act, the Department of Town and Country Planning has served notices to over 150 such houses wherein they have stated categorically that power and water connections in these houses will be cut by the public agency.

According to officials, 20 percent residences in all licensed colonies have to be allotted to EWS, with the owners being allowed to construct structures up to four storeys.

To profit from the burgeoning real estate market of Gurugram, most of the individual builders are also trying to cash in. In areas of Sushant Lok and DLF Phase -3 where there has been a growth in illegal guest houses, complaints galore that how in the area of 60 square yards four to five floors are constructed. Despite notices by the DTCP, no concrete action has been taken against them. Of-late there have been certain demolitions by the public agencies.

“We have recommended 177 cases to DTCP for their occupation certificates to be revoked. Following this, the establishments cannot be sold or purchased,” said a senior official from DTCP.
