In 100 cases of POCSO, police nab more than 80 persons

NEW DELHI: This year, the National Capital witnessed more than 100 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The police claimed that they have arrested more than 80 persons under the Act.

Apart from police, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) also took cognizance of such cases and they received more than 20 cases every week.

The data accessed by the Millennium Post claimed that in the current year till August 15, over 100 cases under POCSO Act were reported out of which 84 cases were solved and 86 persons were arrested.

The last year’s data claim that around 88 cases were reported out of which 70 cases were solved and 75 persons were nabbed. The city police claimed that proper investigat­ion was done which led to the arrest of the accused. Meanwhile, the law enforcemen­t agency took several steps for the safety and security of the women. Around 60 women counsellor­s in 20 police stations have been deployed who are present there exclusivel­y to solve the complaints related to women and girls.

For the victims, they face the worst trauma of their life. A nine-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted in Vasant Kunj area this month is still in the hospital recovering from the trauma. She speaks little, cries a lot and faints frequently,” said the father. The girl’s family have been living in pain since after the crime. The girl’s mother remains quite and also her brother is suffering from fever.

The DCPCR also takes cognizance of such cases. Roop Sudesh Vimal, member, DCPCR, said that in a week, they receive more than 25 cases through direct complaints or newspapers reports.
