Villagers protest against waste collection agency in Bandhwari

GURUGRAM: Controversies around Eco Green, the waste collecting agency, hired by Municipal Corporation of Gurugram does not seem to cease. After complaints of it not collecting the garbage from urban areas now village elders in and around Bandhwari have registered their protest against the company.

The angry villagers claim that the garbage is not being collected from their neighbourhoods. Even the company has still not started the process of recycling the waste at the Bandhwari Landfill site. It must be noted that around 1500 tonnes of garbage is disposed of daily at the 30 acres site.

As per contract the Chinese company was to collect the garbage from the homes of the residents, transport it to Bandhwari and then recycle it. Disappointingly for the residents of Gurugram the initiative that was to be introduced in Gurugram and Faridabad has not borne fruit.

With the challenge of waste management still prevalent in the city, the MCG has sounded optimistic that steps are being taken to ensure citizens effectively segregate waste generated in their homes not many seem to be impressed by the claims of the MCG.

Most of the environmental activists and members of resident welfare associations have claimed of the slow progress by MCG towards improving the situation at Bandhwari landfill site. Further, there have also been complaints that how vacant areas around the colonies are being used by the MCG officials to dump the garbage.
