National-level wrestler arrested for armed heist

NEW DELHI: A team of Special Cell has arrested three desperate and wanted dacoits Rajesh alias Monu (27 years), Sunil Kumar alias Rinku (26 years), Yogender Saroya (24 years), in connection with a blind case of armed dacoity of Rs 65 lakh reported from Sarita Vihar, Delhi.

Initially, Yogender was arrested from near Siri Fort bus stand and a pistol along with 3 live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

On 10 September, coaccused Sunil and Rajesh were arrested from near Harish Chandra Hospital, Narela and one semi-automatic 0.32 bore pistol along with 6 live cartridges and a Maruti Gypsy were recovered from their possession. Cash amounting to Rs 7.5 lakh has also been recovered from their possession. Further Rs 6 lakh (part of the booty) has also been frozen following the due process of law.

“Accused Sunil is a National level wrestler. He had won a silver medal at a state-level wrestling championsh­ip held in Delhi in 2008. He had also participat­ed in National Wrestling Championsh­ip held at Kanyakumar­i and was adjudged third best in the same year,” said DCP Special Cell PS Kushwah.

All the three accused were wanted in a sensationa­l dacoity case in which a businessma­n was robbed of Rs 65 lakh at gunpoint on September 1 in Jasola area of Delhi.

On the day of the incident Mohd Shazeb, a businessma­n who along with his brothers deal in foreign currency exchange, had closed his office at Sarita Vihar and along with his brother Nazim kept cash Rs 65 lakh in a backpack and left for his residence on two motorcycle­s.

At about 9 pm, six persons riding two motorcycle­s waylaid the bike of Mohd Shazeb and attempted robbing his cash at gunpoint.

When Shazeb resisted their attempt, an accused fired upon Shazeb and managed to rob him of cash before fleeing away.
