Ragpicker kills man after tiff over smoking marijuana

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police is yet to identify the deceased who was murdered in the jurisdicti­on of Nizamuddin railway station on Saturday but it has been able to catch his killer from the city on Wednesday. The investigat­ing agency claimed that they are making all efforts to trace the identity of the dead man.

Joint Commission­er of Police (Transport) Atul Katiyar confirmed to the Millennium Post about the arrest and claimed that they have solved the case. Police sources claimed that the accused identified as Ramesh is a ragpicker who lives on the street in the jurisdicti­on of Nizamuddin railway station. He is also a drug addict.

Police claimed that there was a tiff between the accused and the victim on marijuana smoking. “Both were smoking when an argument started and then the victim abused him. After hearing lewd comments, the accused started beating him and he died,” said the police source. The accused fled the spot after committing the crime.

The police were informed about the incident and they started their investigat­ion. The ragpickers and other persons living in the area were questioned. The investigat­ing agency got the clue about the accused who used to come at the spot to smoke. The search was made in the city which led to his arrest.

The accused confessed to the crime and told the investigat­ors the reason behind the incident. The case was totally clueless because the deceased is still unidentifi­ed. Police claimed that he can be another ragpicker who lived in another area had come there on the fateful night.

The accused claimed that he was unaware of the deceased. “We questioned several persons regarding the deceased but no one knows about him and many of them claimed that he was new to the area,” said the police officer.

To know the identity of the deceased the investigat­ing agency had contacted nearby police stations as well as other states.
