Railways revamps Motihari station to tell Bapu’s story
NEW DELHI: The station redevelopment scheme, a flagship scheme initiated by the Ministry of Railways to revamp railway stations, has started delivering results as the makeover of Bapudham Motihari station becomes a reality.
The station, which has been developed on the theme of Champaran Satyagraha -- the social awakening movement started by Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, is showcasing the movements being undertaken by Bapu for the freedom of our country.
Though, the target to develop 68 stations is of 2020, the makeover work of Motihari station completed in record four-month time as the work was started in December 2017 and completed by April 15, 2018.
According to Railways Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani, at the Bapudham Motihari station, a visual museum has been developed showcasing every event related to the father of the nation.
“Those who want to revisit the life event of Bapu through a visual museum, they would have to just scan a bar code placed at the station from October 2 to 15 and all the details related to Bapu would be on their smartphone,” the CRB said.
In reply to the redevelopment of other listed stations, Lohani said, “Multiple tenders have been floated for every station and the development works are being monitored by the DRMS of respective divisions. The DRM'S report is being examined by officials concerned at the Railways Board.”
The tenders are being floated by the DRM and all station redevelopment work would be completed as per the schedule, the official said.
The objective behind the redevelopment of Bapudham Motihari was to mark Satyagraha Se Swachchhata as at this place Gandhiji had kick-started Champaran Satyagraha in 1917 and Prime Minister Narendra Narendra had launched Swachhagraha in 2017.
The station that comes under parliamentary constituency of Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has been improved by establishing new gates at entry, developing circulating areas, decorating the station on Gandhiji theme with the complete display of Champaran Satyagraha, etc.
The redeveloped station was inaugurated by Singh, who had felicitated 63 railway officers and staff for their exemplary work. About Rs 2.5 crore has been spent on the redevelopment of the station.
