CASE AGAINST MANOJ TIWARI For BREAKING lock of SEALED House

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have registered a case against Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari for allegedly breaking the lock of a sealed house in the Gokalpuri area of here, a senior officer said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party slammed Tiwari for creating “drama by breaking the lock of a sealed property” and demanded that he resign for corruption in municipal corporations in the national Capital.

An official of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) said that the property, located in north east Delhi's Gokalpuri, had been sealed as it was being used as a “dairy facility” and allegedly being run in violation of the Delhi Master Plan.

Based on a complaint from the civic body, a case against Tiwari was registered under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, the EDMC official said.

The complaint was lodged by the Corporation on Monday, a day after Tiwari allegedly broke the lock.

If prosecuted, the Delhi BJP chief could face a prison sentence for a maximum term

of six months and a fine.

On Sunday, Tiwari, during his visit to Gokalpuri, was informed by locals that only one house among several was sealed by the municipal corporation.

“I broke the seal of the Corporation's pick and choose policy. The locals claimed all the houses were illegally constructed but a particular house was singled out for action by the corporation,” the Delhi BJP chief had said on Sunday.

Tiwari added he “wanted to appeal” to the Supreme Court and its Monitoring Committee to ensure that no such “pick and choose” action is taken in the name of the sealing drive.

“Even though the BJP rules them, I will not even spare municipal corporations in such matters,” he had said.

Meanwhile, addressing reporters here on Tuesday, AAP in-charge for East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency Atishi said, “The drama done by Manoj Tiwari on Sunday is just a way of distracting the traders in Delhi because BJP does not want to solve the problems faced by the people of Delhi.”

“Otherwise,” the AAP leader questioned, “how is it possible that the building which was sealed by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Municipal Corporation was then broken by a BJP leader?”

The police complaint was filed by EDMC after a video footage of Tiwari breaking the sealed lock of the house in an unauthorised colony in Gokalpuri went viral in the social media.
