Neighbour arrested for rape of seven-yr-old in Seemapuri

NEW DELHI: A seven-yearold girl was raped in Seemapuri area on Monday night, with Delhi Police on Tuesday saying they have arrested the 22-yearold culprit who is a neighbour.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) claimed that the accused took her to a park, inserted water pipe inside her private parts and then raped her. Cops are probing into these allegation­s as well.

Police sources said they received a PCR call about the incident and immediatel­y reached the spot. Within hours, they nabbed the culprit from near the victim's residence.

"The girl was playing outside her house, when the accused lured the girl and took her to an isolated area and sexually assaulted," said Deputy Commission­er of Police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav on Tuesday.

She added that the accused left the girl after raping her and fled the spot, immediatel­y after which a PCR call was made and the girl was rushed to the hospital.

The victim's family was informed of the incident, after which they visited the police station.

Meanwhile, DCW chief Swati Maliwal met the victim and her family on Tuesday and later in the day tweeted, “Just met with 7 year old rape survivor who was brutally raped in Seemapuri yesterday by a 22 year old man. He took her to a park, inserted water pipe inside her private part & then raped her. Girl is v critical, has bled incessantl­y & was oper- ated upon. Mom single parent, v poor!”

“Cannot describe the pain the little girl was experienci­ng. Already malnourish­ed, she has a long struggle ahead. We are going to support her in her legal fight to ensure death penalty to her culprits. Will file compensati­on applicatio­n & shall make all efforts to rehabilita­te her," Maliwal said in a follow-up tweet

Meanwhile, the DCP said that the girl is stable and out of danger. She added that while the FIR stated that a pipe was inserted by the accused, no presence of foreign object was confirmed during the girl's medical checkup.

Joint Commission­er of Police (Eastern Range) Ravindra Yadav corroborat­ed the DCP'S statement and said the girl is stable and was taken to the operation theatre last night. She was shifted to the ward after treatment.

"When she was brought to the hospital, there was no such thing found inside her, but the accused may have attempted," said the Joint CP.
