RSS has nothing to do with politics, it is independent, says Mohan Bhagwat

- SIMONTINI BHATTACHARJEE

NEW DELHI: On the second day of the three-day lecture session here at Vigyan Bhawan, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's Sangsarchalak Mohan Bhagwat clarified on Tuesday that his social organisation works independently and differs from the politics.

Making further reference to the speculated BJP-RSS ties the Sangh chief asserted that the organisation believes that the centre of power should remain as envisaged in the Constitution. “The primary job of Sangh is to unite the society, whereas, politics has different ideologies. Therefore, Sangh differs from regular politics. It does not take part in any election. No Sangh's worker can take charge of any political post. Sangh has nothing to do with politics and votes,” he emphasised.

However, the Sangh Pramukh added that being the largest social organisation, they have an opinion on nationbuilding, but on government's schemes. “Who will rule a state or nation, the election decides. But for the betterment of the nation, we can have an opinion,” Bhagwat said.

While addressing the conclave- ‘Future of Bharat: An RSS perspective' the Sanghsarchalak also clarified that the organisation never asked its Swayamsevaks to work for a specific political party. “If a political party has the highest number of Swayamsevak, RSS has nothing to do with it. Even the President of India is also a Swayamsevak. That is why there is always a misperception that everything is being decided from Nagpur and this is absolutely wrong.” Moreover, the Sangh supremo avouched that many politicians of BJP are senior and more experienced than him. They don't need any advice to fulfill their jobs.

“We have been knowing each other as we all are Swayamsevaks, and if we need each other's advice or views on a specific matter we exchange. But that does not mean RSS influences their politics,” he said.

The three-day session commenced on Monday and will end on Wednesday. Earlier, in his opening speech, Bhagwat also mentioned that “Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is a methodology of building an ideal nation with the ideal persona.” Representatives from different quarters have been invited to this programme.

A question sheet was also circulated at the programme for writing questions, these are being answered by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat during his lecture session. But notably, even on the second day, no prominent opposition face was seen among the star-studded audience.
