NSUI FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST BAISOYA

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: After alleging that newly-elected Delhi University Students’ Union president Ankiv Baisoya submitted fake documents for admission to the varsity, the National Students’ Union of India on Wednesday lodged a police complaint in the matter.

The Congress-affiliated student body also submitted a copy of the complaint to DU Vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi as well as to the concerned SHO.

In a press statement, NSUI said that the recent DUSU elections emerged, rather unexpectedly, in the favour of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, with the party occupying three official positions.

However, a recent revelation of the dualism of the ABVP has hampered the credibility of the elected representatives further, it stated.

“The DUSU president of ABVP has furnished a fake degree of Thiruvalluvar University of Tamil Nadu to enable him to secure admission in MA Buddhist studies course in the Delhi University. NSUI Tamil Nadu wrote a letter of enquiry to the University and received an affirmation that the degree of the DUSU President is fake,” read the statement.

It added that ABVP is “following the footsteps of its parent organisation Bhartiya Janata Party in furnishing fake certificates to deceive the citizenship, in order to subvert democracy in their favour. The NSUI demands immediate action on the matter. The ABVP has not only stained representation and transparency but has also deceived the student fraternity.”

Additionally, NSUI organised a protest on Wednesday afternoon at the Arts Faculty against the DU administration to reinforce its demand of proper legal action against Baisoya.

The protest, held around 1 pm, saw substantial support from the student fraternity.

NSUI national president Fairoz Khan said, “The way ABVP has tried to capture DUSU by tampering EVMS, the way administration and the BJP government has interfered in student democracy is condemnable”.

He further claimed that according to the guidelines of Lyngdoh Committee, NSUI demands re-elections in DU with ballot paper.

The student body also demand announcement of the new election date as well as immediate removal of Baisoya from DUSU.

NSUI also demanded that action should be taken against Baisoya and he should be arrested by Delhi Police as soon as possible.

The Congress-affiliated student body also submitted a copy of the complaint to DU Vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi
