Day after: Debris, ruined belongings at spot tell a tale of destructio­n

NEW DELHI: A day after the seven persons died in North West Delhi's Sawan Park, the area only saw debris of the building under which several lives were crushed. The incident also took away the belongings of residents in the area.

Many of the people were still in disbelief that they lost seven persons including kids. Entering the A Block area of the Sawan Park on Thursday, labourers were seen collecting the debris and things including clothes, teddy bears, copies and other eatable items. It was kept on another side of the road. A damaged motorcycle was also seen at the spot.

Scores of policemen were also witnessed in the vicinity. Sunil Kumar Gupta was looking hapless as his father's shop was totally damaged in the incident. "Nothing was left in the shop my father used to sit here," said Gupta. One of the labourers claimed that apart from debris and the belongings, they have not found any bodies inside.

Close to the dilapidate­d structure, another building was also damaged and no one slept there on Wednesday night because of fear. "I and my mother went to another place on Tuesday," said Vishnu Singh, a resident of the other building adding that his mother at the time of the incident was trapped but later rescued.

The residents claimed that they also raised money for the deceased families and gave to them. "I contribute­d Rs 100 for the family as I had only that much at that time," said Mahendra Gupta.

A shopkeeper of the Navjyoti store there stated that they witnessed such type of incident for the first time. "It is the horrific incident but life will return to the normal situation after some time," said the shopkeeper. A customer at the shop stated that the family living there lost everything. The residents were very curious to know whether the affected families got some compensati­on. One of the vendors lost its vegetable cart in the incident and was found sleeping on the corner of the street.
