Since 2009, over 350 killed in house collapse

NEW DELHI: The reason behind the deaths of more than 350 persons in the city since 2009 was house collapsed in different parts of National Capital, claimed the data of Delhi Fire Services (DFS). The fire services claimed that during collapse they took all necessary steps to make sure the rescue operation go successful­ly.

The data of DFS accessed by Millennium Post claimed that in 2009-10, around 34 persons died whereas in the 201011, the death toll increased to 112 whereas in 2011-12, 47 deaths were witnessed in the city. "The structure collapsed in the year 2012-13 claimed 37 lives whereas, in 2013-14, around 29 persons died. More than 40 persons were killed in 2014-15 whereas in 2016-17 over 20 persons lost their lives. From 2017 to March 2018, 11 persons died," claimed the DFS data.

Talking to Millennium

Post, Chief Fire Officer (DFS) Atul Garg stated that during the incidents of house collapse they sent more firefighte­rs so that the rescue operations were not hindered. "During the collapses, the different types of equipment are used to cut the iron rods or to remove debris there is more manual work," said Garg.

He added that normally they send three to four fire tenders and as per the situation more tenders are sent to the spot. "At the starting, we don't know about the type of house collapse whether it is small or big building as per demand we send fire tenders with equipment," added Garg. The data accessed by Millennium Post further stated that in the year 2017, DFS received more than 23,000 calls which includes incidents like fire, sewer, road, drowning, building collapse. In the year 2016, the calls were over 31,000. From the year 2017-18, more than 27,000 calls have been received by fire.
