Police should focus more on crime-prone areas, says LG

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police should make its presence more visible in the crime-prone areas of city, directed LG Anil Baijal on Thursday. The LG also directed Delhi Police to develop a mechanism to check illegal activities like the supply of drugs, under-age drinking, etc.

Baijal directed that barriers should not be placed on roads without staff manning them and also reflective tapes should be placed on barriers. The LG finally directed Delhi Police for proper monitoring of private security agencies. He urged that the performanc­e audit of these security agencies should be undertaken on the priority basis. “LG was informed about the steps taken regarding women's safety initiative­s which include 08 lines for Women Helpline No. (1091); Dedicated telephone lines managed by women in each Police Station; special deployment near girls' school and colleges; 749 Vans Patrol the city 24x7 with instructio­ns to assist women returning late at night,” said an official.

He added that it was also informed that at present there are 12 All Women PCR Vans (five launched in 2016 and seven added in 2018),199 women police personnel deployed on 138 PCR vans and 142 women police personnel performing critical duties in Central Police Control and Command Room.

"The LG was informed about the strengthen­ing of the beat system in which Delhi Police took many steps such as ASI assigned as beat in charge; foot patrolling made mandatory for all field staff at the Police Stations; paired motorcycle patrolling; prahari scheme launched to integrate private security agencies with mainstream policing to enhance intelligen­ce collection and act as force multiplier," said the official.
