Two die of swine flu; 34 new suspected cases reported in Oct

NEW DELHI: A fresh health crisis is looming over citizens of Delhi after erratic weather with high humidity and slight dip in temperatur­e, which is aiding the spread of swine flu after the Dengue and Malaria. Many city hospitals have reported a number of swine flu cases in the beginning of October this year. Two deaths and 34 new cases of suspected swine flu have been reported in October. Earlier, 71 suspected cases in Delhi were reported this year, said the reports.

Moreover, several cases of swine flu in Delhi have been reported in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Kasturba Gandhi Hospital and GTB Hospital. “Till date, RML hospital has reported 76 suspected patients of H1N1 virus and seven positive case and two deaths. The recent death happened last month,” said an official at RML Hospital.

A senior official at the RML said that the hospital has seen three positive H1N1 cases and one death last month.

“We have a dedicated ward for the treatment of swine flu patients. As of now, there is no pandemic situation in Delhi,” official added. Assistant professor of medicine, Kuldeep Kumar, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, said that if there are symptoms of diarrhea in addition to cold, cough and fever, then immediatel­y check H1N1 to detect swine flu.

He also said that throat pain can also occur and added that people with low resistance can get this disease faster.

He further said that if the patient doesn't get the treatment at early stage of swine flu, it can also turn fatal. Moreover, it can be quite dangerous especially for patients with lungs disorder.

Dr Kuldeep also emphasises that small children, elderly are easy prey to this virus. Apart from this, less resistant capacity and already sick people can also be affected by this disease. If a person is taking medicines for long or he is undergoing treatment, this disease can also be fatal for such a person.
