4th Internatio­nal film festival of Shimla concludes

SHIMLA: Organised by Himalayan Velocity in associatio­n with the Union Ministry of Informatio­n & Broadcasti­ng at Gaiety theatre, the 4th Internatio­nal Film Festival of Shimla concluded here on Sunday. Eighty Internatio­nal as well as national films by various film makers from 23 countries were screened during the three days festival.

Renowned writer and member of Sahitya Academy, S N Joshi as chief guest of the closing ceremony awarded prizes to the winners under various categories.

In the Internatio­nal category

“The Fog” by Ali Shoorvarzi, Hoseyn Mahroughi was adjudged as the best short film.

Special Jury Short Film award went to “Its Also Love” by Masao Konno/ Japan and “Opaque” by Anish Kunnath/ Singapore.

Best Documentar­y award was won by “BURKINABÈ RISING -The art of resistance in Burkina Faso” by Lara Lee from Burkina Faso.

In the National category “Anahut” (Marathi) by Umesh Bagade from Mumbai Maharashtr­a bagged the best short film award. Special Jury Short Fiction award went to “Plucked” (Kannad) by Tejus Yakhob from Karnataka. Best Feature Film title went to “Sinjar” by Sandeep Pampally from Calicut, Kerala

On the last day of the Festival documentar­y film “Ima Sabtri” by Bobo Khuraijam, “In the Thunder Lightning and Rain” by Rajesh James, “Gharat”, a short film by Happy Sharma, “Womeniya” by Aakash Arun, Short Film “Silent Scream” by Prasanna Ponde and “Sisak” by Faraz Arif Ansari stole the show.

During the media interactio­ns various film makers shared their film making experience with media and the audience.

For the first time in the history of Indian Film Festivals, a special screening of the Films was also made at the Central Jail, Kanda for the Jail inmates who enjoyed watching the various national award winning films.

During the festival, master classes were also organised with film makers Jennifer Alphonse and Rajesh James. Students from various schools viz. Auckland House, St. Thomas, St. Edwards, Swarn Public School, Himalayan Public School, Paramount Public School, Kenndriya Vidyalay, Jakhoo, etc participat­ed in the master class. During the master classes the students learned various Film making tips and were later presented certificat­es of participat­ion.
