WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN NOIDA HOME

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NOIDA: A 52-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment at a high-rise residential society in Sector-99 of Noida on Sunday morning.

Police claimed that the victim Babita had died around 20-25 days ago, but it was reported many days later when neighbors called the cops after a foul smell started emanating from her residence.

Residents of the society said the woman has been living alone in the apartment after she and her husband separated a few years ago, while her son – software engineer – lives in Bangalore. Babita was suffering from a serious kidney disorder and was on dialysis, they said.

Cops suspect that as she lived alone with no one to look after her, she was unable to go for treatment and died after her condition turned worse.

According to police officials, residents of the society claimed they felt a foul smell coming from the flat on Sunday. Suspicious, they alerted the police, after which a team from Sector-39 police station reached the spot.

A police officer said that upon reaching the apartment, which was locked from inside, cops broke open the door in the presence of other residents.

“Upon opening the main gate, it was very difficult for us to enter the flat because of the smell coming out of the decomposed body. Somehow, we entered the house and found the body of the elderly woman lying inside. We took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem. Family members of the deceased were informed about the incident. The reason behind her death can only be ascertained after the autopsy,” the officer said.

“The residents told us that the deceased woman hardly gets involved with other residents and remained inside her house. She was last seen around 25 days ago,” the officer added.
