Jal Board approves major projects
NEW DELHI: Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Monday approved construction of a second water treatment plant (WTP) at Sonia Vihar, with 140 million gallon per day (MGD) capacity, at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister and DJB chairperson Arvind Kejriwal.
A Board official said that construction of a 270 cusec additional pipeline from Murad Nagar to Sonia Vihar WTP and restoration and strengthening of 2800 mm internal dia from Murad Nagar to Bhagirathi WTP was also approved.
“At present, the production of water to the tune of 900 MGD is not sufficient against the peak demand of 1140 MGD. Thus, additional water resources filtration capacity are urgently required for an ever growing city, having population of around 19 million.
“Further, to improve overall sewerage conditions, the Board accorded the approval to the proposal of laying a peripheral sewer line in Sangam Vihar group of colonies under Okhla Drainage Zone,” the official said.
He added that in order to improve the hygiene in the area, the scheme of providing sewerage infrastructure in the Badarpur Sub Zone was proposed. The scheme includes construction of a 10 MGD decentralised waste water treatment Plant (WWTP) at Tajpur, including 10 year operation and maintenance, along with providing and laying sewerage network for Tajpur group of colonies in Badarpur Assembly constituency.
“To provide sewerage facility in unauthorised colonies and to trap untreated sewage out falling into river Yamuna through drain, a proposal of providing sewerage facility in Shiv Enclave group of colonies was approved. The scheme will benefit Nilothi extension, Nangloi, Amrita Puri Block C, Ranhola Village, Tek Chand colony main road village Nilothi falling under WWTP catchment are in Mundka constituency. The project will benefit about 1,68,922 people of the area,” the official further said.
