Delhi Metro to build FOB at Samaypur Badli Metro Station

- YOGESH KANT

NEW DELHI: In order to ensure hassle-free connectivity of Metro commuters from outside to Metro platforms, Delhi Metro in Phase-iii is going to construct foot overbridges (FOB) to connect the Samaypur Badli Metro station of line-2 and areas around the railway station. Reaching Badli Metro station is an arduous task for the commuters as they have to either go via the Badli railway station or risking walking on the busy tracks to cross the stretch.

According an official, the proposed FOB, which is to be built by the DMRC, will connect the Metro station with the railway approach road on the opposite side. “It will also have entry points from platform number 1 and 2 of the railway station so that those who board the trains can also take the metro. The Metro station will be connected to the FOB at its first floor.

The official added the length of the FOB and ramps will be approximately 88 metres with a width of 6.1 meters. The project is to cost of Rs 4.47 crore. The source said that people will, however, have to wait for at least four more months until the FOB is ready. “It will be a covered steel bridge with three landing points, one each on the two platforms and one on the service lane towards the colonies adjacent to the railway station, the official said.

He also said that the proposed FOB will be connected to the concourse (unpaid area) of the Samaypur Baldi Metro station. Moreover, a dedicated ticket counter of Indian railways will also be built at the concourse of the Metro station. The areas which would benefit from the FOB include Shiv Puri, Yadav Nagar, Samaypur, Libaspur, Siraspur and Transport Nagar.

Harmeet Singh, who works in a chemicals company in Connaught Place, has been using the Metro ever since the extension of the Huda City Centre-jahangirpuri line opened. He confessed that he too illegally crosses the railway tracks to reach the metro station quickly.

“It is a headache if we have to take the formal route to reach Samaypur Badli Metro station. We have to first pay Rs 5 for each trip as platform tickets and then take the existing FOB, which connects platforms 1 and 2 of Badli railway station. This FOB is that of the railways and it serves no purpose for those who want to reach the Metro station as it is quite far away,” Singh added.
