65-year-old doctor thrashed, stabbed by burglars in Mukherjee Nagar home
NEW DELHI: In another case of crime against senior citizen in the Capital, a 65-year-old man, a doctor by profession, was thrashed and later stabbed when he raised an alarm during a burglary in his house in north west Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Tuesday.
Police claimed that they have registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on from all angles.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said that no arrest has been made in the case.
The victim identified as Dr PK Batra, who lives with his family in Parmanand Colony area in Mukherjee Nagar.
Cops said he was alone when the incident took place between 11.30 pm on Monday and 12 am Tuesday.
Unidentified assailants barged inside the doctor’s house and started beating him up. When he objected and raised an alarm, they stabbed him with a blunt object.
“The accused heard someone coming, so they fled from the spot with valuables,” a police official said.
Police further claimed that after closing his clinic the previous day, Batra had gone with his family to see Ramlila, but returned soon alone.
“Batra’s son Mohit was the first to see him tied and gagged up. He was rushed to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment,” said police, adding that a PCR call was made around 12.30 am.
According to police, Batra runs a private clinic on the ground floor of his threestorey residence, located in Parmanand Colony.
Police are now looking into CCTV footage of the area to find any clues.
They are also trying to ascertain whether the robbers conducted a recce of the spot before committing the burglary.
Additionally, they are on the lookout for the four accused who took advantage of the fact that his house was being whitewashed.
