Mahajan stresses on use of innovation

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who is leading an Indian Parliament­arian delegation to General Assembly in Geneva, addressed on the theme “parliament­ary leadership in promoting peace and developmen­t in the age of innovation and technologi­cal change”.

While speaking on the occasion, Mahajan said that the entire humanity is in the middle of an innovation-led technologi­cal and digital revolution which is shaping every aspect of life on earth.

Mahajan further said that technology and innovation offer us easy access to informatio­n, improved lifestyle, connectivi­ty, communicat­ion, social networking and entertainm­ent but at the same time, it may also lead to job loss, increased loneliness, addiction and psychologi­cal disorders.

The Lok Sabha speaker also pointed out that global partnershi­p to financing technology, women-friendly tools, pro-poor research, the impact of artificial intelligen­ce and loss of jobs are some of the important challenges which the internatio­nal community must discuss and address.

Mahajan also underlined that sustainabl­e developmen­t and peaceful welfare of the poor should always be at the centre of developmen­t as innovation­s using indigenous methods are economical and sustainabl­e. She highlighte­d that several socially beneficial programmes such as mid-day meal programme have brought transforma­tional changes in the lives of our children.
