Woman thrashes manager for allegedly seeking sexual favours

BENGALURU: A woman thrashed a bank manager in Karnataka's Davangere district publicly for allegedly seeking sexual favours for sanctionin­g a

loan with the video of the incident going viral Tuesday. The man has been arrested. The woman dragged Devayya (42), branch manager at the Davangere branch of DHFL bank, by his collar to a nearby women's police station, where a case under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) was registered against him, police said.

A DHFL release said the employee's service has been terminated with immediate effect.

The 38-year-old woman had applied for a loan of Rs two

lakh a month ago and Devayya was allegedly not sanctionin­g it. In her complaint, the woman said the manager made her visit the bank every alternate day.

A police officer said the manager asked her to come to the bank for document verificati­on Monday. When she went there, he asked her to come to his house as it was the last day for verificati­on. In her complaint, she alleged that the man forced himself on her following which she ran out of the house.

Devayya also ran behind her. As a crowd gathered, the woman caught hold of Devayya and started beating him with a stick and slipper. Later, she dragged him by his collar to the nearby women's police station, where a case was registered against him, police said. In a release, Kavita Dasan, VP-HR, DHFL, said: “In the light of the unfortunat­e incident at Davanagere, we have terminated the services of the employee with immediate effect. DHFL strongly promotes and cultivates an environmen­t that is conducive for the safety of women. DHFL has assured full cooperatio­n to respective authoritie­s with regard to any further investigat­ion.”
