Delhi Police inducts 15 refurbishe­d tourist patrolling vans

NEW DELHI: Keeping in mind the large number of domestic and foreign tourists visting Delhi every day, and to encourage feedback about their functionin­g, the Delhi Police on Thursday deployed more tourist patrolling vans at important tourist places which receive massive footfall.

These locations include Terminal-i of IGI Airport, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, Delhi Haat and Jama Masjid.

Induction of these vans will bolster strength of Delhi Tourist Police, which is operating 10 tourist patrolling vehicles at 10 different locations, such as Paharganj, Ajmeri Gate, Terminal-3, India Gate, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun Tomb, Rajghat, Palika Bazar and Janpath Market.

Each tourist patrolling van will be manned by police personnel, including women staff with specialize­d training in hospitalit­y, behavioral skills, working knowledge of English and general tourist informatio­n.

The vans have been provided with city maps, literature on tourism, brochures, autotaxi fair charts and important telephone numbers etc, for distributi­on to the tourists.

Tourist police will also take quick action in case of harassment of tourists by touts, unscrupulo­us elements and unauthoris­ed agents.

“I urge you all to put in efforts in such a manner, that other states’ police should also emulate Delhi Police initiative and tourists return to their respective places with fonder memories of the capital,” Patnaik said, addressing the tourist van staff.

“Special training has been provided to the staff for interactin­g with foreigners. They are also trained in English language so that they are well versed and are confident dealing with foreigners. We hope that the tourists would be happy intetracti­ng with the tourist PCR van staff,” said Special Commission­er of Police Traffic Taj Hasan.
