NEW DELHI: A team of the Special Staff of Dwarka district police solved a blind murder case in Dabri with the arrest of a man from Delhi and four contract killers from Mumbai.

The pistol used in the murder, as well as two more pistols, eight live rounds and two knives have been recovered from the accused, cops said on Saturday.

On October 3, a call was received about a woman being shot in Dabri’s New Janki Puri area. Local police reached at the hospital where the woman Rekha had been taken, where she was declared as brought dead by doctors.

Rekha’s husband told cops that three young men came to their house posing as some customers.

However, they started an argument with Rekha and shot her in the chest.

The husband claimed that the culprits asked the family “where Rs 19-20 lakh were Three of the four arrested accused in police custody

inside the house,” but soon fled after locking him and his children in a room

Cops suspected that some relatives or friends were involved in the murder as the family had sold a house a few months back and the culprits knew about the presence of cash in the house.

Investigation revealed that the suspects were in contact with one Rifakat Khan, a family friend of the deceased, but he had fled his house. Analysis of call data records of Rifakat’s mobile number and that of the suspects, as well as surveillance of all suspects was undertaken. It came to light that the killers had come from Mumbai.

On October 17, the three culprits were arrested from Mumbai, who revealed during interrogation that Rifakat had hired them to rob Rekha’s family. Based on their inputs, Rifakat was arrested from Delhi on Saturday.

“Rifakat knew that Rekha had sold her house for about Rs 20 lakh and the cash is with the family. He decided to eliminate her and loot the cash from the family.

“So, he decided to rope in contract killers, one of whom is a native of his home district but lives in Mumbai, and assured them good money,” said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).
