His gang was operating for the two years and supplied illegal weapons to various gangsters and criminals in Delhi-ncr.
In the recent past, several cases of shooting have occurred in Delhi-ncr, where illegal weapons were by the culprits.
Analysis of these cases revealed that the illegal arms were being smuggled from Uttar Pradesh by several gangs.
A team from Crime Branch was put on the task to collect the details about these criminals.
On October 14, a tip-off was received that Ali would come near Railway Bridge, Bhairon Marg at Pragati Maidan to deliver a consignment of illegal weapons to the local conduit of a gangster.
At around 5.15 pm, Ali was apprehended and two countrymade pistols of .315 bore and two cartridges were recovered from his possession at the spot.
“During interrogation, he disclosed that a gang headed by one Raees was involved in this illegal weapons trade since the last couple of years and supplied illegal weapons to various persons including the gangsters of the region.
“To escape the police net, the gang members took due precautions while communicating with each other over mobile phones,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) AK Singla on Saturday.
