With new device, NDRF can see beyond wall in building collapse

NEW DELHI: The building collapse cases have wreaked havoc in Delhi-ncr killing over 10 persons in the past few months. The manual search of debris by different rescue teams takes more time to check whether any person is trapped under the rubble. But now the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is equipped with a system called “See Through Radar ” which will give them a clear hint of whether someone is trapped inside any collapsed structure or not.

NDRF sources confirmed that the device was used in this year's building collapse in Ghaziabad area. Randeep Kumar Rana, DIG, Operation of the disaster response force, told Millennium Post that the technology will save time and increase chances of saving persons. “See Through Radar will help us to know whether any person is trapped inside the debris,” said DIG. Krishan Kumar, PRO NDRF stated that the device is portable and when it comes in contact with the wall, it will send an image of the person who is trapped, on the screen, and through which the rescue can be done.

The NDRF is also now equipped with SONAR system which will help them in search inside rivers. Earlier, it used to take a lot of time during search of rivers after any incident but now with the help of a new system which can be attached at NDRF boats, it will save the time. SONAR sends soundwaves, which creates an illuminated image of the river or seabed making every object along with contours of the riverbed visible. The rescuers with the help of small screen can see the object inside the river and after locating the exact target, the divers can go in the water to take out the person or the object.

As per data from January 2017 to July 23 this year, NDRF conducted rescue operations in 31 drowning and missing cases, from which 11 bodies were found and one person was rescued. NEW DELHI:
