Criminal wanted in dozen cases nabbed after shootout

GREATER NOIDA: A man wanted in around a dozen criminal cases was arrested from Dadri area of Greater Noida following an encounter with Gautam Buddh Nagar police late Saturday night.

Police said that the accused Anil sustained bullet injury in his left leg, while his accomplice fled away taking advantage of darkness.

Anil, a native of District Bulandshah­r was nabbed when he was passing through Roopvas intersecti­on in Dadri at around 1.30 am on Sunday. He was traveling in a Hyundai Santro car with one of his aides when police intercepte­d them.

“Acting on a tip-off that Anil might pass through the Anil was arrested from Dadri area of Greater Noida area, we had set up pickets and deployed policemen. As he was intercepte­d, we signalled them to stop but they did not.

“When police chased them, they opened fire upon the police party and, in turn, the police retaliated due to which the criminal sustained bullet injuries while his accomplice managed to flee,” said Ram Sen Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station.

Cops said that the gang used to ask for lift from commuters and snatch their vehicle and other valuables on gunpoint.

“Around 10 cases have been registered against the accused person in various police stations across Delhi-ncr. His accomplice identified as Rinku managed to flee the spot and raids are being conducted to nab him,” added Singh.

Upon searching Anil’s belongings, police recovered a country-made pistol of .315 bore, live cartridges and the car which he and Rinku had stolen.
