BJP announces first list for Chhattisga­rh, Telangana & Mizoram

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Central Election Committee announced the first list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections on Saturday here after a meeting held at the party headquarte­rs. CEC chairperso­n and Union Health Minister Jay Prakash Nadda announced the list of 77 candidates, out of 90.

Among them, candidates for 17 seats have been announced for the first phase, where the election is scheduled on November 12, 2018. The last date for filing nomination of the first phase is October 23, 2018.

The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, apart from the members of the CEC.

Meanwhile, ending the speculatio­n over the change of sitting MLAS, the party has also announced 14 new replacemen­ts in the first list, where Women, Girl and Child Developmen­t Minister Ramshila Sahu has been replaced by Jageshwar Sahu from Durg (Rural). “The sitting candidates were not fielded to beat antiincumb­ency,” a party source

told.

Dilip Singh Judev’s son Yudhvir, who sitting MLA from Chandrapur, has been replaced this time by his wife Sanyogita Singh. Sitting MLA Raju Singh Kshatri has been replaced by Harshita Pandey, Beltara sitting MLA Badridhar Deewan has been replaced by Rajnish Singh, sitting MLA of Sakti- Khilawan Sahu has been replaced by Meghram Sahu.

Besides, Chunni Lal Sahusittin­g MLA from Khallari has been replaced by Monika Sahu, Bindranawa­garh (ST) candidate Govardhan Singh Manjhi has been replaced by Damrudhar Pujari, Sihawa (ST) sitting MLA Shravan Markam has been replaced by Pinki Shivraj Shah, and Antagarh (ST) sitting MLA Bhojraj Nag has been replaced by Vikram Usendi.

Former IAS officer OP Chaudhary will be contesting from Kharsia constituen­cy. Out of 77 candidates of the first list, 25 are youth candidates, 20 are SC candidates, 29 are ST candidates, 53 candidates have farmer background and three candidates have medical profession, the CEC chairman JP Nadda mentioned while addressing a press conference in the late evening.

Chhattisga­rh Chief Minister

Raman Singh will contest from his seat Rajnandgao­n while Nand Kumar Sahu will the BJP candidate from Raipur Rural. Former Assembly Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey will fight to retain the Bhilai City seat.

The second phase of polling in Chhattisga­rh will be held on November 20 and counting will take place on December 11.

BJP also declared 38 candidates for Telangana Assembly Elections, out of the trength of 119. K Laxman, BJP state unit chief, will contest from Musheeraba­d. Sitting BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy (Amberpet), Chinthala Ramchandra Reddy (Khairathab­ad), NVSS Prabhakar (Uppal), T Raja Singh (Goshamahal) will also be in the fray.

Three of the 38 candidates are women while four candidates are under the age of 40.

Assembly Elections in the state is due on December 7, 2018, along with Rajasthan. Where as the Mizoram poll is scheduled on November 28, 2018 and the party also announced 13 candidates for the state. Notably, all the candidates are Christian.

Results for both the Assemble Elections will be declared on December 11.
