NEW DELHI: A day after a human skeleton was found inside the water tank of an MCD school in Mukhmelpur village of Rohini district’s Alipur area, a family has approached Delhi Police stating that it could be their son’s who had gone missing nearly 18 years ago.

The family said they suspect that the skeleton found in the tank might be of their lost son, who never returned after he went to a local shop to return an empty cold drink bottle.

“When our son went missing, we lodged a police complained. But nothing happened. Cops did come to our place to ask if we suspected anything, but we did not. He was never found, it is almost 18 years now,” said the woman whose son was reported missing in the year 2000.

“There has to be some responsibility of the school as well. A skeleton was in the tank and no one ever bothered to either clean it or even see it for such a long time, till the body decomposed and became a skeleton,” said a local resident.

Police said a skull and some bones were recovered from the tank after a few labourers involved in the cleaning spotted it and immediately alerted the school administration.

Police, along with a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), visited the school on Wednesday and are waiting for the FSL report to ascertain how old the skeleton is and whether it was a male or female.

A senior police officer said they are also questioning the school authorities and those involved in the maintenance of tank.

“It seems that the skeleton is quite old. How old, only a forensic report wold tell after careful examination. We are also verifying the claims of the family approaching us claiming it to be their son,” the officer added.

NEW DELHI: An eight-yearold boy was beaten to death by other boys in Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi on Thursday, with Delhi Police claiming that four minors have been apprehended in the case.

The investigating agency said that the incident took place at a vacant piece of land in front of a madarsa in Begumpur, whose students – including the victim – were playing on the land.

However, some local boys objected to the madarsa students playing there, which led to a scuffle.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar said that the victim, who suffered serious injuries, was brought to MM Hospital in Malviya Nagar on Thursday. However, he was soon declared dead by the on-duty doctors.

“The deceased boy, aged eight years, is a student of Madrasa Dar-ul-uloom Faridiya, and is a native of Haryana. There was a scuffle between the madarsa students and a few neighbourhood boys (all minors) in the morning,” said the DCP.

He elaborated that the victim was roughed up in the scuffle and fell heavily on the ground, which resulted in internal injuries.

A case under appropriate sections has been unregistered in the matter, said police.
