NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man former junior national boxing champion and a wanted sharpshooter of the Ashok Pradhan gang was arrested from Dwarka’s Mohan Garden area on Saturday, with Delhi Police on Sunday claiming he was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 from Haryana Police.

The accused Vicky, a native of Haryana’s Rohtak district, is a graduate. He had won the gold medal at the Junior National Boxing Championship, 2009, held in Dehradun, cops said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that during interrogation, Vicky disclosed that he had a murder case lodged against him.

To eliminate or terrorise witnesses in the case, so as to turn them hostile and compromise the case, he joined Pradhan’s gang.

In return, Vicky helped Pradhan identify and trace one Sunil Kumar, whom Pradhan suspected to be a sympathiser of his rivals.

“Vicky has previously been arrested in nine cases, including murder, rioting and attempt to murder. He was first arrested in 2011, in a murder case (at Rohtak police station, GRP) and an attempt to murder case (Urban Estate police station, Rohtak) and was in jail for 13 months,” said the DCP.

Yadav added that in 2017, Vicky and his associates had tried to kill Sanjeet and Manish Bhandari, two sharpshooters of the rival Kranti gang.

However, the two survived, and Vicky was arrested and sent to jail for eight months.

Police added that on May 2, after a students election in Rohtak, Vicky and four of his associates murdered one Virender near a dhaba over an earlier quarrel.

In July, he obtained fourday interim bail to attend the marriage function of some relative.

However, Vicky did not surrender afterwards and jumped bail.

Vicky is also close to gangster Rajesh Sarkari, as he was also lodged in jail with him, cops added.
