GURUGRAM: When the case first came to light on October 20, it was a case to be a double attempted suicide by a septuagenarian couple, where Gurmehar Kaur died but her husband Harnek Dhillon survived.

However, grisly details have now come to fore, revealing a sinister plot to cover up the actual crime.

Gurugram Police on Sunday said that after he recovered from his injuries three days later, 77-year-old Dhillon confessed to slitting his wife’s throat as she was unable to kill herself, following which he cut off his own wrists.

Cops further said that Dhillon revealed more shocking details on Saturday when he confessed having a hand in the murder of Jaskaran Singh, a businessman from whom he had taken a loan of Rs 40 lakh.

According to the sources in Gurugram Police, even though Harnek and Gurmehar’s children are settled abroad, the elderly couple was going through tough financial times.

Harnek had been operating a guest house in Gurugram’s Phase-ii area,

reportedly using the loan which he had took from Jaskaran.

However, the business was failing to take off and sustained pressure from Jaskaran to repay the loan resulted in the

77-year-old deciding to kill Jaskaran as well as taking his wife’s and his own life.

To remove any evidence of Jaskaran’s murder, Dhillon and his associate Rupinder chopped up his body into more than fifteen pieces and then disposed of it in Ludhiana, Punjab.

After Dhillon’s revelation, police recovered some of the parts from Ludhiana.

“We are trying to see if there are more people involved in the crime. We are also interrogating the accused so that he can spill more beans on the issue,” said a senior official from Gurugram Police.

This dangerous trend of brazen crimes against the elderly populace of Gurugram was witnessed last year as well. In one prominent case, a widow was murdered brutally by burglars at her residence in Sushant Lok.

When her son, an NRI, he did not receive any response from the woman after multiple calls, he asked a relative to check on her, which led to the unraveling of the heinous murder.

There are several senior citizens and elderly couples in Gurugram whose children live abroad. For security purposes, some of these couples have hired private security professionals. Moreover, clubs for the elderly have sprouted in the city, which are seeing a healthy rise in membership.
