In GMDA survey, residents choose the amenities they want
GURUGRAM: In a first of its kind initiative, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has begun the process of consulting residents of the city about the facilities they want to be constructed.
Based on this survey, a data bank will be created and accordingly, works for the projects will be undertaken.
In the first phase of the consultation, held on Friday, effective transportation and affordable health care were among of the top concerns brought to fore by the participating citizens.
This is the second such comprehensive process of date collection undertaken by GMDA. Earlier, the Authority had done a similar survey ahead of the introduction of Gururgaman bus services.
More than 5,500 households and 19,642 citizens were surveyed last time, with 43 per cent of the participants being women.
The exercise was conducted in all 35 wards of the city. As there were plans to introduce over 400 buses in the around 11 routes in the city, the officials had conducted the survey to understand the shortcomings of the public transportation system which can then be rectified.
Based on the observations, 69 per cent of the city population was found to be under the middle-class category, with 40 per cent of the citizens having a monthly income between Rs 15, 000 to Rs 30,000.
Over 90 per cent of the 55000 households surveyed were found to have their personal vehicles.
Seventy two per cent of the houses were found to have two-wheelers, while 18 per cent were found to have cars during the Gurugraman survey.
