Cops, passenger come to woman’s rescue after she gives birth in bus

NEW DELHI: Every mother has a story about the birthday of her child. But Sunita story of her son’s birth will remain the most unique for a long time to come.

Travelling on a bus going towards Madipur area with her husband Ramesh on Saturday, Sunita unexpected­ly went into labour near Madipur bus stand. Fortunatel­y, she gave birth with help from a woman passenger to a boy.

Immediatel­y, a call was made to the cops, and a police control room (PCR) van reached the spot within five minutes. The newborn boy in the hospital on Sunday

Deputy Commission­er of Police (PCR) SD Mishra said that soon after receiving the call, they wasted no time to reach the spot. The PCR staff including constable Pramod, the bus driver and the woman passenger then helped rush to Sunita and her son to a hospital in West Delhi.

A nurse at the hospital said the two are still receiving treatment. At the hospital alongside his wife and newborn son, Ramesh said he was please and has now left everything to God.

The others patients in the ward, meanwhile, were surprised to learn that Sunita successful­ly gave birth inside a bus. But they said they are very happy for her and are giving her all help.

Momina, one of the rela- tives of a patient bedded beside Sunita, said they are happy that she reached in time at the hospital.

Ramkumari, another relative of a patient at the hospital, said they are helping Sunita with food and other necessary items.

Ramesh, meanwhile, claimed that in the past, a child Sunita had given birth in their native village near Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh had died.

The wife and husband work as labourers and are currently living in Aman Vihar area.

“Even during festive rush, the PCR team reached the spot, which is commendabl­e,” said Mishra.
