NEW DELHI: As Diwali is on the horizon, Delhi Police has heightened their vigil in the Capital's districts including permanent firecrackers license holders to make sure that the guidelines related to crackers must be properly implemented. Police sources told Millennium Post that the senior official from licensing unit of city police had talks with the Chief Controller of Explosives regarding stocking and sale of firecrackers.

“The Chief Controller of Explosives told police that they have issued notices to permanent firecracker licence holders regarding stockpiling and selling,” sources said. They further added that police have also met permanent license holders in their respective jurisdictions and apprised them about the Supreme Court's guidelines.

The districts Deputy Commissioners of Police have commanded their ACPS and SHOS to intensify the patrolling in their respective areas. “We have also met the Resident Welfare Association of different areas and they have been asked to burst firecrackers in pre-identified areas only,” said a senior police officer.

Delhi Police also informed that they have got more than 100 application for the license of temporary firecrackers.

The data accessed by the newspaper claimed that police stations of South East and South districts have received 38 & 30 license applications respectively.

Additionally, the number of application from West and Outer Delhi stands at 35 & 2 respectively, whereas, Dwarka district has got more than 20 application. The last date for application submission was October 28. Police sources also informed that the firecrackers should be approved with Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation only.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) has identified at least 19 vulnerable spots, namely Bara Tooti Chowk, Tilak Nagar, Lajpat Nagar central market, Lal Kuan Chowk, Lahori Gate, Nangloi, South Extension, Sonia Vihar, Mehrauli, Ghitorini metro station, Alipur police station, Rani Bagh market, DTC depot Katran market, Mahipal Pur Chowk, Sangam Vihar, Mundka metro station, Chhattarpur near Tivoli Garden, Gandhi Nagar market, Azad market, where fire tenders will be kept round-the-clock on vigil.

DFS officials, in a meeting, emphasised the need of additional vehicles deployment, considering the fact that no fire station is located in close proximity of these 19 areas.

Moreover, the fire department has decided to deploy more than half a dozen patrolling bikes for narrow lanes and streets where fire tender vehicles cannot enter easily.

According to the fire department, fire tenders will be deployed in 12 of these places on November 6, whereas all 19 places will see the presence of these vehicles on November 7.

Moreover, firefighters on nine motorcycles equipped with bag pack will be deployed on streets and narrow lanes, while an additional 11 SUVS will also be deployed at 11 places in Delhi.
