NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru Univesity on Wednesday relaunched “Swachh JNU” mobile app with additional features aimed at seeking students help in dealing with alarming rise of pollution level inside the campus. This free of cost application works on smart phones which is a commonly used gadget by everyone today. This would be a real-time monitoring and reporting system, which would help the entire university community at large, said an official of JNU. This is one among the many initiatives the University has taken to bring efficiency, transparency and overall JNU community welfare. IIRS/ISRO has coordinated this program in collaboration with many other national institutions. This is the first time that such an App is being used in any University system in the country, said in the official.

A Swachh JNU Mobile App, a contribution towards campus e-governance, is developed for the JNU community, including students, staff, faculty and family members, to report sanitation related issues for proper redressal. This would alarm the service end of the university to get precise information on the type (biodegradable, nonbiodegradable, industrial) and location (GPS coordinates) of the waste with photograph. The App ensures complete recording of reporting, dissemination of information and action taken to ensure best services, said the official. The mobile app, the Swachh JNU, with the support of IIRS/ISRO, has taken a novel initiative to utilise the Location Based Services (LBS) using Geo-spatial Technology (GST), said in JNU statement.
