AAP likely to wait for announcement of candidates till alliance talks are on
NEW DELHI: The AAP is likely to wait for the announcement of Lok Sabha poll candidates till the alliance talks are on. However, the condition of alliance talks is not yet clear. Earlier, the party decided to declare the name of the candidates by January end but there has not been any announcement yet.
According to the sources, the party has already completed the review of the works done by the Lok Sabha in-charges such as Atishi, Raghav Chadha, Dilip Pandey and others.
Meanwhile, the sources confirmed that the high-level talks are on regarding the alliance, hence the party does not want to take any decision in a hurry.
The state Congress reportedly is dead against any such alliance. Pradesh Congress has reportedly already informed the All India Congress Committee regarding their view.
Earlier, the Congress has "more or less" ruled out an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday, a day after he had participated in a meeting with opposition leaders, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Responding to a question on an alliance with the Congress, he said it has "more or less ruled out the alliance (with AAP)".
Asked whether the AAP was more eager for an alliance with the Congress, he said the BJP would benefit in a threecornered contest.
Moving forward on a united anti-bjp front for the Lok Sabha elections, top opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday agreed to work together to prepare a common minimum programme to oust the Modi government and to consider forging a pre-poll alliance.
The meeting, hosted by NCP president Sharad Pawar at his residence here, also saw Congress chief Gandhi and Kejriwal coming together for the first time.
Meanwhile, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said AAP is willing to have an alliance with Congress in Delhi for the Lok Sabha polls and it is now up to the two parties to decide whether they want to jointly take on BJP.
Responding to a question at an interaction here on Thursday on Congress being pitted against regional parties, Banerjee said, "People are intelligent. Never underestimate them. In my state, Congress and CPM are fighting against us. But in Delhi, I have heard AAP is willing to fight along with Congress. It is now for AAP and Congress to decide."
