LG calls for bolstering security framework

NEW DELHI: In the wake of the terrorist attack in Pulwama, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday laid the stress on the need for bolstering security framework so that internal security challenges can be dealt with in a better way.

"Along with the rest of the country, I am pained by the terror attack on the Srinagarja­mmu highway and salute the jawans who sacrificed their

lives toward protecting the nation. This undoubtedl­y is an irreparabl­e loss for the country and I express my condo

lence for the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery for those injured," he said in his address at the 72nd Raising Day Parade of Delhi Police held at New Police Lines at Kingsway Camp.

The chief guest inspected the parade comprising of con-

tingents of Anti-riot Squad, Armed Police, Women Police, Police Commandos, Dog Squad, Mounted Police, Traffic Squad, Women Constables on bicycle, Mobile Cyber Lab, PCR Squad, SWAT and Rakshakvaj­ra.

Contingent­s of Maharashtr­a Police, UP Police & Haryana Police also took part in the March Past, which was synchroniz­ed with Delhi Police Band. The Chief Guest conferred medals on 46 police personnel for Gallantry, President Medal of Distinguis­hed Service and Police Medal for Meritoriou­s Service. The trophy of Best Police Station was bagged by Police station KN Katju , while Malviya Nagar police station and Khayala police station ended up I & II runners-up, respective­ly.

The Commission­er of Police, Delhi reiterated commitment in fighting terrorism being the topmost priority of Delhi Police. Apart from Special Cell, sharing inputs, holding interstate police meets, raising specialise­d SWAT (Women & Men) commando units and Cyber Cell etc have been integral mechanism to keep a sharp eye and thereby is well prepared to thwart any threat.

Kiranbedi, LG, Pondicherr­y, KK Paul, Former Governor Uttarakhan­d, former Commission­ers of Police, MB Kaushal, TR Kakkar, BK Gupta and Neeraj Kumar and several retired as well as serving senior police officers were also present on the occasion.
