Cattle thief, villager shot dead during robbery bid in Gr Noida

GREATER NOIDA: Two persons including a villager and a thief were shot dead after unidentifi­ed robbers barged into one villager's house to steal cattle in Jarcha area of Greater Noida in the wee hours on Sunday.

Cops said that the accused fired bullet in order to free his accomplice from the villager but accidental­ly the bullet hit its accomplice while another bullet hit the villager.

According to police, the deceased villager was identified as Ratan Singh, who works with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in Delhi. Police are yet to identify the accused thief who also died in the incident.

As per reports, the incident occurred around 3 am in Khurshidpu­ra village of Jarcha. One of Ratan Singh's family members said that they reacted to his shout for help and woke up.

“Late in night, we heard Singh shouting for help and immediatel­y rushed for rescue. As we reached the spot, we saw that Singh had caught hold of one of the accused while another fired a bullet in order to free his accomplice.

One of the robbers accidental­ly injured his accomplice , who was caught by Singh, with the first bullet while the second bullet hit Singh in his chest and he fell down on the ground.

When other residents of the village rushed to the spot, the robbers fled away taking advantage of darkness while they failed to take away their injured accomplice and he later succumbed to bullet injuries,” said Khushpal Singh, victim's nephew. Police officials said that they are yet to identify the deceased thief while the bodies were sent for the post mortem.

“We are yet to identify the deceased robber and are working on tracing his accomplice­s. The bodies have been sent for post mortem while a case of murder has been registered against unidentifi­ed robbers,” said Vineet Jaiswal, Superinten­dent of Police(rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Following the incident, the villagers protested against the police's laxity while a subinspect­or stationed at the Jarcha police station was recalled to the police lines after accusation­s of carelessne­ss and negligence were made against him.
