- OUR CORRESPONDENT

GHAZIABAD: A 37-yearold man has been arrested by police in connection with the murder case of an elderly woman in Modinagar area of Ghaziabad earlier in the week.

Cops said that the accused is the nephew of deceased woman and he murdered her as she used to scold him for his drinking habits.

According to police, the accused has been sent identified as Rajbir, a native of Bulandshahr district.

“The accused is unmarried and his parents have died around a year ago,” a senior police officer said.

Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, Superintendent of Police (Rural) told

that six months ago, the accused had come to Ghaziabad in search of job and got a job at a steel factory in Modinagar.

“Rajbir started living at his aunt's place in Modinagar but due to his drinking habits and her aunt's grand daughter's marriage, she threw him out of her house around three months ago,” said Jadaun.

“On April 16, 2019, the accused had come into the house by climbing the boundary wall at around 11 pm. However, his aunt woke up and shouted on him to get out of the house. The accused told the woman that he wants to stay for a night and in morning he will leave. But his aunt was not ready to accept Rajbir's demand and continued shouting,” added Jadaun.

The officer further said that the accused, in a fit of anger, murdered his aunt and slit her throat several times. The woman's body was spotted by her neighbors later in the morning which was lying on a bed inside her house.

“Rajbir was inebriated at the time of incident and he slit his aunt's throat by using a blade and then cut veins of both her hands. The accused also waited for almost 30 minutes at the spot to ensure that she is dead and later fled the spot,” Jadaun said.

“The accused has been booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 (punishment for murder). The accused will be sent to jail after producing before the court,” police said.
