Day after bizman rescued from kidnappers, police say accused duped another man

NEW DELHI: Day after a 64-year-old Mumbai-based businessman was rescued from the clutches of his kidnappers from East Delhi area, the kidnappers, during the interrogation, revealed that they have committed the crime in the past with the same modus operandi.

Police sources told Millennium Post that the interrogators are verifying their claims.

"We have found that one of the accused had criminal records in the past," said sources adding that they are tracking their past records.

According to sources, the incident was reported on around 10:16 pm on Friday night.

It is being suspected that man was honey trapped by a gang which comprised of 6 members including 4 women.

The gang assumed that the ransom would be paid off easily as the victim might fear for his social reputation.

However, the police team laid a trap and in a midnight operation, they rescued the businessman.

HONEY TRAP GANGS USING DIFFERENT MODUS OPERANDI:

From sending e-mails to offering lifts, the honey trap gangs had vast modus operandi to trap people.

According to investigators, they randomly send e-mails and messages on social media accounts to different people.

"The person who replied back to their email the criminals lured them and then trap them for extorting money," said investigator adding that they also maintain registers containing details of the e-mails and social media account whom they have sent.

In 2018, Delhi Police has arrested a gang of three African nationals, including a woman, for honey-trapping an east Delhi-based doctor through Facebook and duping him of Rs 40 lakh.

The accused had introduced herself with a fake name of Sandra and posed as a British national after he accepted her request on Facebook.

Initially, she started chatting with Vijay on Facebook to know more about India. She told him that she was unmarried and was interested in marrying an Indian man.

Another investigator added that some gangs offer a lift in the vehicle and then threatened the victims to give money or they will falsely accused them in rape cases.

Highly placed sources in the crime branch said that in some cases the accused also target a particular person.

"The accused continuously monitors the person moves through the internet," said investigator adding that they mostly target elderly person.
