With the help of CCTV live spotting, RPF held man for stealing retired flight lieutenant’s bag

NEW DELHI: As soon as a thief stole a bag of a retired flight lieutenant, he lands in the net of Railway Protection Force (RPF) in New Delhi railway station.

RPF was live-tracking the accused, identified as Abdul Kalam, on the CCTV cameras installed across the railway station.

According to RPF on September 13, on duty CCTV staff noticed the suspicious movement of a person in the platform area of New Delhi Railway station.

He immediatel­y informed senior official and continued to monitor the suspicious person through CCTV while simultaneo­usly alerting the RPF staff on platforms.

When the suspect restricted his movement on platform number 14-15 where passengers were a boarding train (Jammu Rajdhani).

A team under Assistant Security Commission­er (NDLS) Harish Singh Papola led by Bhupender Singh, Inspector (RPF/ NDLS) laid down a trap to apprehend him red-handed.

"When Jammu Rajdhani started leaving for the destinatio­n, suspect with a stolen bag deboarded from B1 coach of the moving train and walked pretending as a genuine passenger to board another train. As soon as he boarded the train he was apprehende­d with the stolen bag," said RPF official.

The accused is a habitual criminal and has already been convicted in six theft cases. A.N. Jha, Senior.

Divisional Security Commission­er (RPF) from his possession a bag was recovered containing laptop, retired flight lieutenant identity card, credit and debit cards and few thousands of cash.

S C Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Delhi) said that till August 2019, Delhi division has approx. 500 CCTV cameras which have enhanced passengers' security in railway premises and it will be increased with time & requiremen­t. Sanjay Sankrityay­an, IG (RPF/NR) congratula­ted the RPF team for showing excellent profession­al approach in crime control.
