After chase, police nab two criminals in S Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two men from Defence Colony area of South Delhi. The accused had fired on patrolling team and after a brief chase, they were nabbed.

According to police, during the intervenin­g night of September 13- 14, a patrolling team in Defence Colony area received a call around 12:49 am that the occupants of a black car have illegal weapons and can be apprehende­d.

"The police personnel immediatel­y called the highway patrolling staff and started checking of vehicles near BRT petrol pump with the help of picket staff," police said.

After a few minutes, a black Chevrolet Cruise car with three occupants came towards the police picket and efforts were made to stop the car but the driver of the car did not stop his vehicle and instead, fired at the picket staff. He drove the car away at high speed.

Staff followed the offending vehicle. The police party managed to block the offending vehicle near bus depot by sandwichin­g it.

The driver of the car eventually came out of the car and fired at the cops and simultaneo­usly, started running towards the boundary wall of the bus depot.

Meanwhile, a constable tried to catch the accused when he was trying to flee away and managed to take the pistol from the criminal.

During the scuffle, one of the accused persons snatched the service revolver of a constable and managed to run away.

"During the whole incident, two rounds were fired by the police team. We were able to catch two criminals," said Deputy Commission­er of Police (south) Atul Kumar Thakur.

Police identified the accused as Anuj Rawat and his associate and Yamin.

"Yamin was admitted in the hospital as bullet brushed him from the backside," police said adding that one of the accused fled from the spot.
