In less than 2 months, cracks reappear on Rampura Flyover

GURUGRAM: The Rampura flyover was damaged yet again. It is the third instance of damage within nine months on the same spot, 11 km from Rajiv Chowk on the Delhi-jaipur expressway.

The damage has again brought the construction quality and strength of the flyover under the scanner.

The flyover was opened in 2016 and forms a part of the 195-kilometer-long Delhi-jaipur Expressway, between Kherki Daula toll and Jaipur.

Around 35,000-40,000 vehicles use the carriageway on a daily basis to head from Jaipur towards Delhi, NHAI officials said.

Officials of the Pink City Expressway Private Limited (PCEPL), the concessionaire for NHAI between Jaipur and Manesar, did not respond to requests for comment.

The incident caused concerns among commuters and officials, as similar incidents were reported at the same spot last December and July.

Taking the same stance as earlier, officials blamed the movement of “overloaded vehicles” on the stretch for the “concrete fracture”.

“A lot of overloaded vehicles use this flyover and several times they break down. For hours, they are on the lane until repaired. This puts undue pressure on the flyover,” an official from the highway concessionaire, Pink City Expressway Private Limited, said.

The official added that two months ago, they had repaired the damage and put chemicals to boost the strength of the structure. “This time we'll deliberate on how to fix it in a way that it isn't repeated,” he said.

According to the investigation officer, they have been following up with NHAI and the concessionaire, but haven't received any reports.

“We can't take any step unless the reports come to us,” the officer claimed.

The traffic around the area was affected but being a weekend the adverse impact of it was not felt that much by the commuters.
