TWO KILLED AS SPEEDING CAR HITS AUTOS

NEW DELHI: The errant driving of a-23-year-old man claimed the lives of two autoricksh­aw drivers in Swaroop Nagar area of Outer North district on Monday. Police have arrested the accused who was coming from Murthal with his four friends in the car. The deceased were sitting inside their autos when the incident happened.

According to police, the accused Mohit, resident of Bhairon Enclave, Palam is pursuing graduation from the open university. His reckless driving killed Sanjay (40) and Jaikishan (36) who lived with their families in Swaroop Nagar area. One of the deceased claimed to be the sole bread-butter earner for his family. One person was also injured in the case.

Sharma said that no liquor traces were found in the body of accused Mohit. He failed to control his Maruti SX4 car which was driven at high speed.

Elaboratin­g more about the case, DCP Sharma said that on Sunday night, at 1:52 am they received a PCR call in which the caller told them about an accident near Swaroop Nagar bus stand and the injured were serious. On this

informatio­n, police staff immediatel­y reached the spot where picket staff was already present. On the spot, two autoricksh­aws and one SX4 car were found in the accidental condition. Both the injured were immediatel­y sent to BJRM Hospital. Later they were immediatel­y referred to LNJP Hospital. At about 8:30 am, both the injured died during treatment.

"During the investigat­ion,

it has been revealed that car driver Mohit was coming from Murthal after having dinner and going home with his five friends. At about 1:40 am they reached near Swaroop Nagar Bus Stand GT Karnal road and hit the parked autos with drivers who were waiting for passengers at the bus stand," said the DCP, Outer North.

DCP Sharma further added that in this incident, three autos

were damaged.

The car driver was apprehende­d on the spot by the police picket staff.

"Further legal action is being taken," police said. A case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others) of IPC was registered at Swaroop Nagar police station. NEW DELHI: A 64-year-old motor mechanic and his wife were mowed down on Monday by a dumper truck in Northwest Delhi's Jahangir Puri, police said. The deceased were identified as Hukum Chand and Beena Devi (55), residents of Karan Vihar in Kirari, the police said.

The incident took place at around 6 am when Chand, his wife and their two children were returning Delhi from Himachal Pradesh, according to police.

“They got off the bus at a prepaid booth counter near the Outer Ring Road. When they were crossing the road, a dumper truck bearing a Haryana registrati­on number hit them,” said Vijayanta Arya, Deputy Commission­er of Police (Northwest).

Devi died on the spot and Hukam Chand succumbed to his injuries in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital. The truck driver fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind, the officer said.

A case under section 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Jahangir Puri police station, police said.

Chand was a motor mechanic and Devi was a housewife.

“We went to Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh and were returning to home along with my sister. We got down from the Haryana Roadways bus near prepaid booth. My parents were following me when I was crossing the road. Meanwhile, a speeding truck came there and fled after mowing them down,” said Rakesh Kumar (33), the elder son of Chand.

The couple is survived by five children -- two sons and three daughters.

“The auto drivers, who were present in the area helped us. They made the truck driver to stop his vehicle and also took my parents to the hospital. My two sisters live in Delhi and one in Himachal,” Kumar, who works in a bank, added. NEW DELHI: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Monday claimed that they have busted an illegal firearms factory based in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Four persons were arrested and 10 weapons were seized. Police identified the accused as Talim Khan (25), Nauman (35), Najar Hussain (33) and Juber Khan (32). Additional Commission­er of Police (crime) Ajit Singla said that they received informatio­n that members of an illegal firearms syndicate would come to Chhalwa area for delivery of a huge consignmen­t of illegal firearms to someone in Najafgarh area.

The crime branch formed under DCP Joy Tirkey led by Inspector Richhpal Singh laid a trap and four members of the gang were apprehende­d on Dwarka-chhawla road while they were travelling in their Swift car. At the instance of the accused persons, raids were conducted by the crime branch in Mewat region at top of Ghadijaan Pahadi, District Bharatpur, Rajasthan and an entire illegal arms manufactur­ing unit was unearthed.
