Former Jharkhand Congress president Ajoy Kumar joins AAP

- AAISHA SABIR

NEW DELHI: EX-IPS officer of Jharkhand cadre and former Jharkhand Congress president Ajoy Kumar joined Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Thursday in the presence of senior AAP leaders. This is seen as a significant move by the AAP party with the upcoming assembly elections round the corner.

Kumar was welcomed into the party by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj besides other AAP leaders. Welcoming him in the party, Deputy CM said that the move will not only strengthen AAP in upcoming assembly polls but will further help to strengthen the ideology for which AAP was formed. "We need people like Ajoy Kumar to change politics and make it meaningful for the common man," said Sisodia.

In 2014, Kumar joined Congress and in 2019 he switched to AAP. Kumar feels that AAP is the only party for the "aam aadmi" where anyone can join and work towards development. While upmarket connections and boatload of money may be a deciding factor for candidature in other parties it does not apply at AAP, he said. “There is no point talking about past allegiances, I want to look to the future wherein I feel comfortable and honest work is recognised. I want to be associated with a party that is honest in reality and delivers what it promises, unlike some parties that indulge in political faff about education, electricity, health, and safety," said Kumar while joining the party.

Commenting on the recent Tabrez Ansari lynching case in Jharkhand, Kumar said, “These days it is not the rule of law but the law of the ruler. The police work in adherence to the present ruling party gauging what their take is on such events. Fear of being on the wrong side of events can have irreversible consequences and the police fall prey to that thought. An incident like lynching to happen in this century is an embarrassment for the country. If no action is taken on such events, then there is no hope for the country."
