NEW DELHI: A minor girl alleged that she was raped by a Delhi Police constable posted in New Usmanpur Police station of North East Delhi on Thursday.

The incident led to a huge protest outside the police station by locals and the family members of the victim. According to sources, the victim was missing from her home and the family approached the police. The family suspected a boy from the area who was also missing since then. On Thursday, a constable Vishram Meena from the New usmanpur police station reached the girl's house and asked her to accompany him to court for some legal proceeding. It was then he took her to an isolated spot in Yamuna Khadar and raped her. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone including her own parents.

The girl when reached home narrated the ordeal to her parents who then staged a protest along with the neighbours and friends at the New usmanpur police station in North East Delhi.

“What is the work of a policeman? If the protectors turn predators what will happen,” an angry protestor said.

The protest was called off only after the family was assured of strict action against the accused by senior police officers who immediately reached the spot sensing the gravity of the matter. The FIR was registered against the constable and legal proceedings initiated.

“We received a call at around 12 in the afternoon about the said incident. We have initiated legal proceedings against the constable on the complaint of the victim girl, we are probing the incident and will act accordingly,” said DCP North East Ved Prakash Surya.
